Exposure Compensation (+/-)

In the previous articles about exposure, exposure compensation was always cited as an option to adjust exposure. In doing so, the photographer uses the camera’s respective operating elements to correct the level of brightness – minus (- darkens image) or plus (+ brightens image).

Settings vary considerably from camera to camera (check the camera’s user’s manual). The relevant operating elements are often marked with a (+/-). It is important that you reset the exposure compensation back to (0) after capturing an image. Otherwise this could cause incorrect exposure.
