Digital Zoom

The way a digital zoom works is comparable to enlarging an image section during post-processing on the computer. In both cases no further image information is available.

Therefore, details that are non-existent in the image cannot be "magically" added. This is the reason why photos that were captured with a digital zoom often appear to be out-of-focus and devoid of details. It also explains why photos shot with a digital zoom often have a smaller file size. For everyone who feels comfortable at the computer, it is recommendable to deactivate the camera's digital zoom and to edit the section on the computer.
