Spot metering / Partial metering

The difference between spot and partial metering modes is small. In partial metering ca. 10% of the image is used to meter the exposure and in spot metering usually only about 5% of the image is used. Therefore, spot metering can give a highly accurate metering of exposure on a small image section.

  • The spot or partial metering are suitable for sharp differences in contrast and precise metering of small image sections.

  • Centre-weighted average or multi-zone metering modes are suitable for fast and convienent photography and are sufficient in most cases.
  • In spot metering mode, the exposure has to be metered before every shot, otherwise the probability of an incorrect exposure is very high.
